Naturopathic Medicine Awareness Week – On September 10, 2013 a senate resolution was passed declaring October 7-13 Naturopathic Medicine Awareness Week. This spurred a series of events practitioners held across the country in October educating their communities on the benefits of Naturopathic medicine. The passage of this bill was a direct result of our lobbying efforts. Read the full text of the bill here here.

Naturopathic Doctors Eligible for IHHS Loan Repayment Program – In early 2012 when the Department of Health and Human services issued it’s federal register that defined “priority health professions” for the Indian Health and Human Services loan repayment program, Naturopathic medicine was included on the list for the first time. This awards up to $20,000 per year for the repayment of qualified student loans in exchange for an initial 2-year service obligation to practice full-time at an Indian health program site. This again, was the direct result of our lobbying efforts.

Naturopathic physician friendly language in the Affordable Care Act – Section 2706 of the affordable healthcare act states that practitioners must be eligible for reimbursement if they are practicing under the scope of their law. This was fought for by many healthcare professionals, not just naturopathic physicians, but our lobbying efforts helped with its inclusion in the final healthcare bill that was signed into law.
